My Approach
You are the sky. Everything else -
it's just the weather.
- Pema Chodron
I believe that within all of us lies the ability to weather all the storms of life. I see my role as getting into the boat with you for part of your life's journey. You are always the captain of your own ship, directing where you go and what you do. Sometimes though we find ourselves off course and need some outside help to find our way back. That's where a good therapist can be helpful.
My approach to working with clients is to begin from a place of deep curiosity and genuine respect for my clients' expertise in their own life. My intent is to walk alongside you in partnership. Rather than telling you what you should be doing, I will make suggestions, offer insights, assist in finding new ways to interpret your past and present and, ultimately hope to help you find a new path that feels "right" for your unique way of being.
Just as all humans are unique individuals, so too is every counselling experience. I have an eclectic approach that draws from many sources including EMDR, Relational Cultural Theory, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Attachment-Based, feminist, Trauma-Informed, expressive arts, play therapy.
While "talk therapy" forms the basis for most of what I do, there are times when words can't address the emotions or experiences we're trying to show. In these instances I may invite you to draw, paint, sketch or move in a way that best expresses the moment.
My intention is that your experience of being in counselling with me will be one of warm acceptance, where you feel free to express your whole self. I believe that it is only when we are in a place of comfort and ease that we can accept new ways of seeing ourselves and the world around us.
